International Synthesis and Case Study Examination of Caregiver-Friendly Workplace Best Practices

STREAM 1: Caregiver Friendly Workplaces

Many employers in Canada and abroad are currently prioritizing the needs of caregiver-employees (CEs) by providing a wide range of caregiver-friendly workplace policies (CFWPs). How these caregiver-friendly workplace policies/programs (CFWPs) have been defined, developed, introduced, integrated and sustained within the workplace are likely influenced by many factors. These include internal factors, such as employees, management decisions, and affordability, as well as external pressures such as market conditions or competitor practices.

This project aims to determine the best and most generous caregiver-friendly workplace policies (CFWPs) currently being offered to caregiver-employees (CEs) in Canada and internationally. This project will also determine how they were defined, developed, introduced, integrated and sustained within the workplace. The outcome of this study will be the creation of a ‘best practices’ synthesis document targeted at employers/human resources personnel, which will provide easy access to implementation strategies, based on characteristics of the labour force and workplace/industry.
