Evaluation of Caregiver-Friendly Workplace Policies (CFWPs) Interventions on the Health of Full-time Caregiver-Employees (CEs): Implementation and Cost-Benefit Analysis

STREAM 1: Caregiver Friendly Workplaces

Current Canadian evidence demonstrating the health benefits of caregiver-friendly workplace policies (CFWPs) is needed if Canadian employers are to adopt and integrate caregiver-friendly workplace policies (CFWPs) into the workplace. This study will apply and measure an intervention strategy in two workplaces to examine the impact on caregiver-employees (CEs) mental and physical health. This 3-year research project contains three related studies: (1) an intervention study specific to CEs health; (2) an economic analysis of the intervention, and; (3) an implementation analysis of the intervention.

It is expected that the benefits of the intervention will include improvements in caregiver-employees (CEs’) health, as well as evidence of the cost-effectiveness of implementing caregiver-friendly workplace policies (CFWPs) for the employer. The implementation analysis will provide strategies on how to better implement the caregiver-friendly workplace policy (CFWP) interventions in other workplace settings.

This research project has been funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), through an Operating Grant (2014-2107) MOP 137044.
